For this tutorial, I’m going to show you how EASY it can be to get a flawless blended ombre with these beautiful bright colors. Plus, how to dress up your project with WoodUbend Wood Appliques for a fun DIY Furniture Makeover.
Here’s my Step-by-Step instructions for how to get this brightly colored ombre, PLUS a full Video Tutorial to follow along.

I used a combination of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in Flamingo, Peony, Aubergine & Plum Crazy.
You’ll need a clean brush for each color, so 4 total paint brushes, plus a water mister bottle to get started. I used a Dixie Belle Mini, but you can use any synthetic brush.
Let’s Get Started!
I pull the drawers out slightly so I can paint behind them. I’ll be painting the sides of them later on, so I’m not worried about getting paint on them.
I start at the top with Dixie Belle’s Chalk Mineral Paint in “Flamingo”
To avoid a harsh straight line, don’t stop the color directly over the drawer.
Instead, carry the color over the drawer before you start transitioning to the next color.
Next, I grab a clean brush to start painting with my next shade, Dixie Belle’s “Peony”.
Start painting just below the “Flamingo” without touching it. You don’t want to blend your colors just yet.
Mist with some water, then use your “Peony” brush to blend up into the “Flamingo".
Use a cross-hatching motion to pull the colors together & blend out the straight line between them.
Then use your “Flamingo” brush to drag the colors back & forth. Going left to right will blend them into a nice smooth finish.
After blending those together, paint down a little bit farther with just “Peony” before starting the next color.
My third shade is Dixie Belle’s “Plum Crazy”, which is a very close shade to Peony.
Start your line just underneath the last color, again being careful not to blend them yet.
When you’re ready to blend, use your “Peony” brush to smooth out the line between the 2 colors. There’s not much effort needed to blend these 2 colors together.
Now it’s time to transition down into the next color, Dixie Belle’s “Aubergine”.
It’s a slightly darker shade of purple that compliments the purple tones in Plum Crazy. It’s not as easy to blend as the others but does blend very well.
Use “Plum Crazy” brush to start blending. Mist your brush with water to thin out your paint and help it blend easier.
Use a cross-hatching motion to blend the line between the colors.
Your brush may begin to get muddy with residual paint. Clean it off on a fresh paper towel, then continue blending.
Next, I use a clean brush to smooth out the cross hatching. Use long, back & forth strokes to avoid brush marks.
If your paint is drying too fast, spray your brush with some water to help thin out and blend easier.
With a clean brush, finish painting “Aubergine” all the way down to the bottom.
Step #2 How to Add WoodUbend Mouldings to Furniture
For the final touch, I dressed up the drawers with WoodUbend Appliques. They’re made of wood that becomes bendable once you heat them up. Then they can be painted or stained just like wood!
TIP: I painted my WoodUbend to match before I applied them. I think it’s easier to get in all the sides and recessed edges with your brush.
I heat them up on my electric griddle to make them bendable, then use Titebond Wood Glue to apply them.
Moving quickly so the glue doesn’t dry, apply a thin even coat to the back of your molding.
Use it sparingly to prevent it from dripping out the sides when you press it down.
I have a small craft brush to wipe off any excess wood glue that comes out the sides.
If the Moulding starts to harden before you get it flat to your surface, you can heat it back up using a heat gun. (Just be careful not to hold It too close or in one spot too long.)
Press firmly to be sure the moldings are completely flush to the surface.
Let the moldings dry for a few hours before applying your second coat of paint. You’ll be doing 2 coats of paint. The first one is mapping out your colors.
On your second coat, you can change the color placement if you need to.
